The relationship between diabetes and yeast infections is well established. Elevated blood sugar levels can create conditions that allow Candida to grow more readily, while diabetes may also reduce the body’s natural ability to keep yeast under control. As a result, people living with diabetes are more likely to experience recurrent or persistent yeast infections than the general population.

The good news is that many of the factors contributing to recurrent infections can be addressed. Working with your healthcare provider to manage blood sugar levels, seeking prompt treatment when infections occur and supporting your overall gut and metabolic health may all help reduce the likelihood of future episodes.

If you’re experiencing frequent yeast infections, don’t ignore them or simply treat each one in isolation. Recurrent infections can sometimes be an important clue that your body is signalling an underlying issue worth investigating.
